The
Institute of Economics, Zagreb is a public scientific institute founded in 1939
with a longstanding tradition in conducting economic research. The Institute
employs a highly educated research team, enthusiastic about their research
activities as well as creative and open-minded about new ideas. Our service
departments are fully qualified to provide all the necessary research support. Thanks
to this strong foundation, and the positive management efforts in previous
years, the Institute of Economics, Zagreb ranks among the leading scientific
organizations in Croatia.
The Institute has
defined its mission and vision, as well as its strategic goals, in its
development strategy entitled
EIZ 2021: A
Framework for Development. In line with those goals, we are committed to becoming
recognized as the leading Croatian research institute in the field of economics
and the regional center of excellence in economic research.
Accordingly, the
Institute strives to conduct scientific research in the field of economics, as
well as interdisciplinary research, which corresponds to international trends in
terms of subject, content and method. In doing so, we hope to facilitate a
better understanding of the economic and social processes and problems in
Croatia and its surroundings. In our activities, we uphold the highest research
standards, encourage the acquisition of new knowledge and skills in applying sophisticated
analytical techniques and continuously invest in our research infrastructure. The
high level of quality enables our research results to be used in identifying
recommendations for policy-makers.
Our tradition is based on objectivity of scientific
research, freedom of thought and expression, and preserving
the impartiality of our work. We encourage cooperation with Croatian and
foreign scholars, the business community, public institutions and civil society organizations. Networking
with the research and academic community, the business sector and other
organizations strengthens our own capacities to apply for competitive national
and international scientific project funding. It also contributes to the quality
of our scientific production, which is oriented towards international
publications, while continuing to publish papers in Croatian as well, in order
to sustain the communication with the Croatian scientific community and broader.
The Institute’s research
interests change according to the evolving needs of the economy and society in
general, but in all our activities we support open access to research findings,
sharing scientific results, communication with the public and popularization of
economic research. To that aim, we hope this website will provide ample insight
into our work.
