The Scientific Board carries out activities defined by law and the Institute’s statute, in particular:
- identifies and implements the science policy of the Institute;
- discusses and decides on scientific and professional issues;
- adopts the Institute’s annual work programme upon the Director’s proposal;
- considers and submits a preliminary opinion on the Director’s report on the execution of the annual work programme and budget;
- carries out a part of the procedure for appointment into scientific research grades, if the institute has been authorised for this procedure;
- proposes to the Board of Directors to pass a by-law on additional conditions for appointment into scientific research posts;
- carries out procedures of appointment into scientific research, associate and professional work posts;
- appoints and dismisses members of the Institute’s Board of Directors, in accordance with the law;
- proposes the Institute’s budget to the Board of Directors;
- proposes to the Board of Directors nominees for a committee that elects the Director of the Institute;
- discusses and submits a preliminary opinion in the procedure of adopting the statute and regulations adopted by the Director, in accordance with the statute;
- carries out other activities pursuant to the founding charter and the statute of the Institute.
